Top 40 Rarest Fortnite Skins (2023)

Fortnite’s virtual store constantly lures players with its ever-growing assortment of skins, offering the latest and most captivating cosmetic choices. Throughout the years, there have been numerous awe-inspiring skins that could be acquired through purchases or special drops. Hence, I have curated an exclusive collection showcasing the rarest Fortnite skins to date, conveniently accessible in one location for your enjoyment. I genuinely yearn to obtain some of these even now.

40. Double Helix

The Double Helix skin is incredibly rare in Fortnite. It was exclusively available in October 2018 as part of a Nintendo Switch hardware bundle. Therefore, only players who purchased this particular Switch SKU possess this outfit. However, it was a worthwhile investment back then since the bundle included all the items displayed above.

39. Hunstman Saber

The Huntsman Saber outfit, unlike other promotional skins, is still available for acquisition. However, it can only be obtained through a unique Xbox Series S bundle known as the Gilded Hunter Bundle. Although the bundle itself may not appear particularly scarce, it carries a price tag of $300, making it an investment beyond the reach of the average player solely seeking the Fortnite cosmetics.

38. Psycho Bandit

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

During August 2019, the Epic Games Store organized a special offer, granting Fortnite players the Psycho Bandit Bundle if they pre-ordered or purchased Borderlands 3 on their platform before December 2020 concluded.

The extent of players who utilized this deal remains uncertain, but perhaps those who missed out will have a stroke of luck if it resurfaces alongside the highly anticipated launch of Borderlands 4.

37. Frostbite

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

Frostbite was bundled with a download code for Fortnite in a physical edition release. This edition was made available in November 2018 but is no longer in circulation. However, there are several websites selling game keys for Frostbite, albeit at high prices.

36. Surf Strider

The initial release of the Splash Squadron Bundle, which included this skin, was exclusively offered to Intel CPU owners who could easily redeem it by visiting the Intel website. After the conclusion of this promotion, it re-emerged but with a different requirement – individuals had to acquire it through the Intel Gaming Access app. Unfortunately, during the course of this latter promotion, the supply of codes ran out, leaving uncertainty as to the number of individuals who were able to obtain the skin after putting in their efforts.

35. Xander

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

In July 2022, Xander participated in a Fortnite event called Refer-a-Friend, which had been ongoing for a considerable period of time. The event involved completing specific tasks alongside a friend who had either never played Fortnite before or had logged less than two hours of gameplay within the past 30 days.

Although it may seem possible to enhance this process by utilizing a second account, obtaining the Xander outfit ultimately entailed both the player and their friend account reaching 60 levels individually. This presented a significant obstacle, so it is reasonable to assume that only a limited number of individuals managed to accomplish this and acquire the skin prior to the conclusion of Refer-a-Friend in January 2023.

34. Galaxia

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

Although numerous Fortnite Crew skins could be included on this list, Galaxia holds the distinction of being the inaugural skin ever provided as a subscription perk. Back when the Fortnite Crew was freshly introduced, there probably weren’t as many subscribers since it felt slightly unusual to pay a monthly fee for a game that was originally free.

As a result, the Galaxia skin is likely to be less owned by players compared to other offerings from the Fortnite Crew, giving it a sense of rarity.

33. Jack Gourdon

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

We absolutely adore the rare Fortnite skin, Jack Gourdon, with its charming pumpkin head.

Jack Gourdon, the limited-time outfit, was launched in October 2018 specifically for the Halloween season. This unique costume is only available for a brief period each year, making it a valuable addition for players looking to complete their collections.

32. Star-Spangled Ranger

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

Similar to Jack Gourdon, the Star-Spangled Ranger is a rarity due to its exclusive availability during the Fourth of July period each year. This coveted skin (and its accompanying set) only emerges once annually.

In our opinion, the skin may seem unexciting. However, for individuals aiming to expand their assortment of scarce Fortnite skins, this is definitely one to include in your Locker.

31. Codename E.L.F

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

The festive Fortnite skin, known as Codename E.L.F, is not only obvious in its festivity but also incredibly rare. This skin stands out among the others in Fortnite as it can solely be acquired from the Item Shop, and its availability is extremely limited.

After its initial release in December 2017, the skin made an unexpected comeback in late January 2018. It continued to be available in the store for the first four months of 2020 as part of the Polar Legends Pack. As of now, the skin has not been seen for a span of 971 days, with its last appearance recorded on July 10, 2020.

Although being part of the Polar Legends Pack increased the skin’s visibility, it is probable that not many players purchased it due to the slightly higher cost of the bundle.

30. Hollowhead

Hollowhead can be described as an amplified version of the previously mentioned Jack Gourdon skin, with the addition of glowing ominously. It was first introduced in October 2018 through the Item Shop and has made appearances exclusively during Halloween events, limited to only four instances since its release.

The Fortnite skin in question has made a total of three appearances leading up to Halloween 2018, as well as two appearances in late October 2019. Its scarcity in the Item Shop solidifies its status as an extremely rare skin.

29. Fable

In order to unlock the Fable skin, players needed to reach Tier 47 during Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 6 Battle Pass.

This skin lacks any reactive properties or unique abilities and does not offer any alternate styles to choose from. Its rarity stems from the fact that it has not appeared in the Item Shop since its initial release in the Battle Pass.

28. Dire

Players had the opportunity to acquire the Dire skin as the coveted Tier 100 reward during Season 6. Initially, in its Stage 1 manifestation, the skin appeared rather ordinary and quite prevalent. However, avid players craving the complete werewolf transformation were required to accumulate a substantial 250,000 XP to unlock Stage 6.

The Stage 6 Dire skin has secured its spot on our compilation of the most elusive Fortnite skins. Regrettably, since the skin will no longer be available in the Item Shop, if you haven’t acquired it yet, you’re simply out of luck.

27. Galaxy

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

Correctly guessing that this is yet another Fortnite skin exclusive to a particular platform, the Galaxy skin was available to those who purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or the Galaxy Tab S4. After acquiring either of these devices, players had to download Fortnite and login to their account in order to add the skin to their Locker.

Unfortunately, the Galaxy skin got discontinued following the launch of these two devices. Consequently, if you missed out on acquiring it during that time, obtaining the Galaxy skin is no longer possible.

26. Omega

To unlock Fortnite’s Omega skin, players had to diligently complete numerous challenges and grind through countless games as part of the Season 4 Battle Pass, ultimately earning it as the Tier 100 reward.

If you come across a player rocking a fully-equipped Omega skin with red, green, purple, or yellow accents, you can be sure that they are a pro. These additional parts and unlockable styles were obtainable by dedicated players who focused on leveling up their Season Level during Season 4.

25. Blue Team Leader

The Blue Team Leader didn’t belong to the Tier 100 skins, nor did it frequently appear in the Item Shop. Its rarity stems from being exclusively available to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

In 2018, the PlayStation Store offered a complimentary download known as the PS Plus Fortnite Battle Royale: PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack. This exclusive pack was available for free to all PS Plus subscribers and included the sought-after Blue Team Leader skin.

It is possible that the free bundle went unnoticed by some individuals, making it difficult to determine the number of players who might possess this skin. However, chances are it will never be made available again.

24. Trilogy

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

Resembling a scene from Splinter Cell, Trilogy’s appearance with the PlayStation coloring was initially exclusive to the eighth PlayStation Plus bundle. Although Blue Team Leader maintains its default skin appearance, this variant exudes a highly strategic and adept aura, ideal for efficiently eliminating adversaries.

The bundle, which featured this skin, was last seen in December 2019 and has remained elusive ever since.

23. Yuletide Ranger

The Yuletide Ranger skin is a holiday-themed cosmetic that is easily recognizable by its name. Despite its affordable price of 800 V-Bucks in the Item Shop, it remains quite uncommon due to its limited availability.

Every Christmas season, it consistently appears in the Item Shop, yet it continues to be one of the least frequently showcased skins.

22. Merry Marauder

If your desire is to play Fortnite as a furious gingerbread man character, then search no more because the Merry Marauder is the perfect option for you.

Once more, this skin is a celebratory skin that has made only a few appearances in the Item Shop during the Christmas season. Its release during a time when Fortnite was not widely popular contributed to its status as one of the scarcest Fortnite skins.

21. Renegade Raider

Let’s delve into the realm of extremely exclusive Fortnite skins. The Renegade Raider, a highly sought-after skin, was exclusively obtainable during Season 1 by avid Battle Royale players. To even have the opportunity to acquire it for 1200 V-Bucks, one had to attain Level 20 and visit the Season Shop, as it was known at that time.

The Renegade Raider’s absence from the Item Shop has been prolonged and is highly unlikely to change in the future.

20. Aerial Assault Trooper

Image Source: Epic Games via Fortnite.gg

Similar to the Renegade Raider, the Aerial Assault Trooper is an exceptionally rare Fortnite skin due to certain factors.

The skin mentioned here was exclusively obtainable in Season 1 and required players to reach Level 15 in order to have the option to purchase it from the ‘Season Shop’. It was priced at 1200 V-Bucks at that time. Given the limited number of Fortnite players during that period, these skins are exceptionally rare.

19. Dusk

Dusk, belonging to the Nite Coven set, made its debut in the Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 6 Battle Pass. To obtain this skin, players needed to achieve Tier 71.

Ever since that time, Dusk has not made an appearance in the Item Shop. Considering her demanding unlock criteria on the Battle Pass from previous seasons, she has become quite a rare skin to obtain in Fortnite.

18. Ghoul Trooper

Fortnite’s Ghoul Trooper is a highly coveted OG skin that adds a spooky touch to Halloween. Originally released in October 2017, this skin has made limited appearances in the Item Shop during the eerie season each year.

Despite its rarity, the Fortnite skin remains one of the least commonly seen.

17. The Reaper

Last year, prior to the official release of the licensed John Wick skin, Epic Games employed a rather sly tactic with The Reaper. Although they now deny it, The Reaper was undoubtedly intended to represent John Wick, making it highly coveted among players who aspired to become the notorious Boogeyman of the Battle Royale island.

In order to obtain the skin, players had to achieve Tier 100 during Season 3. Although it was attainable, it was much more challenging due to the smaller player base and the demanding progression required to reach Tier 100. Consequently, acquiring this skin remains exceptionally rare. Given the existence of an actual John Wick skin in the game, it is presumed that The Reaper skin is permanently unavailable.

16. Blue Squire

The Blue Squire is a skin that dates back to Fortnite Season 2, similar to Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper. However, acquiring the Blue Squire was relatively easier as all you had to do was purchase the Season 2 Battle Pass.

Back then, even though Fortnite was easily accessible, there was a lack of enthusiasm among people to actually play the game. Those who did engage in it were hesitant to invest money in skins or Battle Passes, considering the game had not yet established its worth.

15. Purple Glow Skull Trooper

The original Skull Trooper was once deemed one of the most elusive Fortnite skins for quite some time. It made its debut during the Halloween event in 2017 and had been absent from the shop for a whole year.

However, in 2018, it made a comeback, becoming more popular among players. Nevertheless, only those who possessed the original Skull Trooper from 2017 were granted the exclusive Purple Glow style. As a result, the Purple Glow Skull Trooper now holds the title as one of the most scarce Fortnite skins.

14. Honor Guard

The only way to acquire the exclusive Honor Guard skin is by purchasing the Honor 20 smartphone. Similar to the Galaxy skin, Fortnite players who used their Honor 20 device would automatically receive the Honor Guard skin in their Locker.

The racing jumpsuit appearance may be simple, but its vibrant blue color truly stands out. The skin was supposed to become available in the Item Shop after the promotion ended, but for some unknown reason, it has yet to be released.

The Honor Guard skin in Fortnite is undoubtedly one of the rarest skins, considering that the Honor 20 phone did not gain widespread popularity.

13. Black Knight

Players who managed to reach Tier 70 in the Season 2 Battle Pass were rewarded with the prestigious Black Knight skin. This exclusive skin was one of the original rewards for reaching the top tier.

Obtaining the skin now is nearly impossible since it has never been made available in the Item Shop.

12. Royale Bomber

Another exclusive skin has been released, making it limited to a specific platform. The only way to obtain the Royale Bomber skin is by buying a PS4 hardware bundle or getting a DualShock 4 controller with promotional packaging.

You can obtain any of these options to receive a code that grants you access to the exclusive Royale Bomber skin, along with additional cosmetics. This skin has never been released in the Item Shop or through any other means, and it is unlikely to become available in the future.

11. Drift

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

First and foremost, it’s important to clarify one thing. The standard Drift skin is not considered rare in this context. It can be obtained by purchasing the Season 5 Battle Pass.

On the contrary, the Style 6 appearance of Drift is what makes it truly uncommon as it demands players to accumulate 200,000 XP for unlocking. Drift cannot be bought, hence if you failed to obtain it, it becomes an unattainable asset.

10. Ragnarok

Ragnarok, another prominent skin in Season 5, could be obtained by reaching Tier 100 on the Battle Pass. Similar to Drift, Ragnarok also offered a range of additional styles that could be unlocked.

Ragnarok’s full set, one of the rarest Fortnite skins, can only be obtained by the most dedicated players who have accumulated 500,000 XP to unlock its final stage.

9. Sparkle Specialist

Image Source: Epic Games via Fortnite.gg

Completing our list is an additional Season 2 skin known as the Sparkle Specialist, which players had to achieve Tier 56 on the Battle Pass to acquire.

A genuine rarity in Fortnite, it has never made an appearance in the Item Shop and is unlikely to do so.

8. Radiant Striker

Although Radiant Striker has made several appearances in the Item Shop since its initial release on March 14, 2018, it has not been available for purchase since May 2, 2021.

At the time of writing, the skin has been absent for 803 days, indicating a prolonged absence. Considering its relatively unremarkable nature compared to other rare skins, it is possible that it may never make a comeback in the Item Shop, as more impressive designs could take its place.

7. Trench Raider

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

One might assume that a skin called Trench Raider would be effortlessly obtainable and undeniably impressive. However, such assumptions would be nothing more than wishful thinking.

On certain occasions, when we mention that something has appeared only twice in the Item Shop, we are referring to its availability during two separate time periods. The Trench Raider skin has made two appearances, with each lasting for one day. The first occurrence was on November 16, 2019, while the most recent sighting took place 1,273 days ago on January 18, 2020.

6. Cole

Image Source: Epic Games via Pro Game Guides

The Cole outfit possesses several qualities that contribute to its rarity, with one of the least common being its classification as an uncommon item on this list. The primary indication of Cole’s rarity is the fact that this skin has made an appearance in the Item Shop only three times, on different days.

Originally launched on May 6, 2019, it subsequently made appearances in June of the same year and on December 8, 2019, marking a total of 1,186 days since then.

5. Tracker

The Tracker skin made its debut in Fortnite’s inaugural season, becoming available in the Item Shop at a cost of 800 V-Bucks. This skin bears resemblance to one of the default skins provided when players do not equip their own personalized ones.

Since its initial release on November 1, 2017, Tracker has only made appearances on nine different days. The last time it was available in the Item Shop was 1,332 days ago on November 20, 2019.

4. Chief Hopper

In July 2019, Fortnite introduced the Chief Hopper skin as a tribute to the third season of Netflix’s supernatural series, Stranger Things.

Hopper made its debut as a three-day appearance from July 5-7, 2019. However, it was not seen in the Item Shop again until November 6 of that same year. Since then, a total of 1,346 days have passed without Hopper being available for purchase.

It remains uncertain whether or when Chief Hopper will make a comeback to the Item Shop. However, the fact that it did not return to commemorate the release of Stranger Things Season 4 in 2022 is a discouraging sign.

3. Demogorgon

The Chief Hopper skin in Fortnite is incomplete without its evil counterpart, represented by the Demogorgon skin. Both skins were available in the Item Shop for a limited time in July 2019 to celebrate the Stranger Things crossover. However, the Demogorgon skin has only made another appearance on Nov. 6, making it a total of 1,346 days since its last sighting.

Similar to the Chief Hopper skin, there is no official confirmation regarding its comeback. Nevertheless, it was oddly not brought back alongside the release of Stranger Things Season 4 in 2022.

2. Shaman

The Shaman skin stands out as one of the most visually impressive rare Fortnite skins. This skin, classified as Epic-rarity, was purchasable in the Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks. However, it was only obtainable on four specific days, starting from March 31, 2019.

Since its last appearance, the skin has only been seen on a single day in April, July, and December of 2019. This implies that it has been 1,320 days since its previous sighting. Whether or not the skin will make a comeback is still uncertain, but we truly hope it does, considering its exceptional design.

1. Black Widow

The Black Widow skin made its debut during the Marvel’s Avengers event, which coincided with the release of Avengers Endgame in theaters in April 2019. Although it was briefly available for purchase in the Item Shop for two separate periods of three days each in April and May 2019, it has not made a comeback since then.

In November last year, Epic Games offered players an opportunity to acquire a Black Widow skin with a slight variation by participating in the Black Widow cup in the Marvel Knockout Super Series. However, it’s important to note that this skin is not identical to the original version.

The Black Widow outfit has been absent from the shop for 1,530 days, indicating a slim chance of its return. Surprisingly, it wasn’t reintroduced even when the solo Black Widow film premiered. The other Black Widow skin has made more recent appearances, suggesting that this particular outfit has been all but forgotten.
